Fortresses in the Bernese Oberland
8 min from AeschiVarious fortresses and bunkers – used from World War II until the 1990s – are now privately owned in the Lake Thun area and can be visited.
Take the opportunity to experience a piece of Swiss history up close.
The Heinrich command post (A1956) is located in the rock (Triassic limestone) of the Hondrich hill (Hondrichwald) 851.8 m above sea level, the highest point in the municipality of Spiez, on the left bank of Lake Thun in the Bernese Oberland.
The fort belonged to the operational area of the 3rd Division and, from 1947, to Reduit Brigade 21.
The facility was built between 1941 and 1943, expanded during the Cold War, and declassified in 2005.
The facility contained only weapons for self-defense.
